Continuing Electrical Problem 200 1990

This post was started last week, but I have encountered new issues so I decided to start a new post.

1) I decided to replace the small clock with another.
2) While small clock unplugged its wiring made contact together
and I smelled burning. Decided to leave clock uninstalled
because of smell. Also unplugged small volts gauge.
3) Instrument cluster began to work erratic, rpm gauge
was jumping and not working, other gauges not working normally.
4) Swapped out instrument cluster with another (with exact plugs
in rear) because I found original cluster had burned areas.
5) All seemed well for a day. Small clock still unplugged
and volts gauge was re-plugged and working fine.
6) Next day volts meter started to get lower and within a
1/2 hour drive car battery was dead. After a short wait the
car restarted and on drive home went into a limp mode and then
battery died. Had car towed home.
7) Today I went to remove the alternator to take it in to be
tested and at this time I saw that its "red" thick wire was severed.
8) Alternator was tested as "good".
9) Fixed "red" wiring with a patch and reinstalled the alternator.
10) Boosted battery in car and all seemed fine. Within a few minutes
while car was warming up the cluster became erratic and then car
died.

Don't really know where to look next.
Could a bad battery be my issue? I just replaced that battery
a couple of weeks ago.

Any and all advice is appreciated,

Joseph
