In the process of struggling to fish the old wires out of the tailgate (245) I destroyed one of the plastic sockets for the gray wire. Looking at the replacement wires, they come without the sockets. In hindsight that makes them a lot easier to install (and remove).

To remove the flat connectors from the sockets I used a pin pusher made from a 16d nail. Grind down about 3/4' of the tip to form a shallow wedge that goes from about 1/32" to 3/32" at the back. Narrow it up so the wedge is a little more than 1/8" wide. If it fits into the plastic socket and depresses the lock tab on the metal connector, it is the right size.

The bullet type connectors have two wings that need to be depressed. A thinwall tube that is 0.2" OD works great. Old style telescoping radio antennas are a good source of thinwall tubing of various diameters. A light touch with a small tubing cutter will not crush the end.
