Alternator Ground Explanation 200 1990

I know I should wait for your new post, but I might not be looking when you post it.

The alternator needs a ground wire because it is mounted in rubber -- electrically isolated for all practical purposes by its vibration damping.

The ground wire Volvo put on it was blue, and looks like this. It goes from the bolt on the alternator bracket mount to the longest of the four long screws tying the alternator frame together, secured by a nut, which in my experience has always been loosened by an 8mm wrench.

The ground wire fails inside the ring terminal lug crimps. Onkel Udo reminds us the failure might be hidden by the part number identifying sleeve.
