Hot alternator pulley 200 1985

I installed a Bosch reman alt and every so often there's a squealing noise coming from around the alt and simultaneously the alt pulley gets very hot and my volt gauge drops to around 10 volts. About a minute or two later the squeal stops and the gauge goes back up to about 14. I assume the belt is spinning on the stuck pulley. If the alt is seizing up causing the squeal would it do so occasionally or constantly? I had the same squealing noise with the original 30 year old alt that I replaced.
Thanks in advance for your insight.
