1996 960 no start issue 900 1996

You are on the right track with these fixes and - if DIY - not that costly either.

I had fan run-on problems, temp gauge weirdness and Check Engine light on my S90 although the engine seemed to start and run OK. Being on a trip with no tools or garage, I took it to a Volvo dealer and got it back a few hours later after the usual big invoice, with a diagnosis of failed ECT sensor (yes, just one, and the temp gauge and fan are driven from the ECU) and bad thermostat. They replaced the suspect parts and the car then ran normally for 22,000km until sold a few months ago.
