J-Type O.D. Question 1800 1973

OK so between the Haynes manual and owners manual I've learned it IS oil pressure that causes the OD to engage and the solenoid is simply used to open and close the control valve. I've also learned there is a strainer in the OD that should be cleaned periodically. So I guess I won't know if this thing works right until I install and drive.

The owners manual calls for either straight 30Wt or 20-40. The trans I picked up definitely had 80/90 in it. Back in my 140/M40 days, I ran 80/90 in the gearbox with no problem but there was no OD either. What are thoughts/opinions on proper weight?
