Transmission failing? (AW70 in 1991 245) 200 1991

given that it's not always happening, and that you're getting lower-volume of fluid passing thru cooler lines, I wonder if there isn't crap getting sucked up onto the filter screen and restricting the flow? You may need to drop the pan, clean out the bottom of the pan, replace the filter, then refill with fresh fluid.

That said, a friend bought a 245 where the AW70 (already bearing a "rebuilt" tag) skipped second gear. We never solved it, ended up swapping in a junkyard replacement. but it NEVER had second gear, this was definitely not intermittent like yours. And fluid pumped out at normal volume when we flushed it.
