NO, NO, a thousand times no. Don't use scotchbrite on any engine parts unless the parts ore off the engine and they are going to 101% washed and cleaned before replacement. A few small scotchbrite particles will wreck your bearings.

A quick Google of "scotchbrite engine bearings" should convince you.
