Alternator? S90-V90 1997

DANGER - don57 - DANGER

I cannot agree with disconnecting the alternator and then running the car. The energy generated has to go somewhere - probably heat.

You can measure output voltage without disconnecting anything.

You do not mention how many miles on your car/alternator - I had two fail at almost exactly 215K - one seized, and the other needed new brushes as the other poster mentioned.

Don't be surprised if the problem cures itself - when the brushes wear short, then stick and do not make good contact, then you go over a bump, and they make good contact for a while. You can pull the assembly out and look at them.

Post your results, or the solution to your problem, that's what makes this board work - If you ask, then you should give as well.
