So, I thought I did the right thing with this Volvo...low mileage (150k), M46, extensive service records, red, with red interior, no rust west coast car...all I had to do was drive it back to Ohio from California. It should've been an easy trip, with unseasonably mild weather, (which didn't go as promised), and a few days off of work. Instead I had horrific snows and high winds, and after I survived that, in Nebraska, the engine started ticking, and then went BOOM, as a chunk of the camshaft wedged between the flywheel and starter motor caused the starter motor to explode and set the prairie grass on fire.
I just got the word from the shop that the engine is toast. So...I have a few options...get a remanufactured B21F, salvage an '82 B21F from a parts car I have, and have it rebuilt, or possibly, swap it for a B-21FT (preferably with an inter cooler). Since I'm already running K-jet, and I have to replace the engine anyway, I'm trying to figure out how different the two motors are, and what extra parts I would need for the conversion. I've done some research,, but most people seem to be upgrading their B21FTs, or swapping to more powerful, later turbo engines. They're starting where I'd like to stop. Unless it's super easy, I have no need for that much extra power. I'd just like to be able to climb hills without having to coax the car.
