Headlight Wiring 444-544 1961

Hawkeye;

Headlight wiring "works" by routing power from Headlight Switch, by way of Hi/Lo Beam Switch, to Lights at the corners...and only when turned ON!...nothing fancy, and no relays necessary!

Reference Wiring Diagram: http://www.sw-em.com/544%20Wiring%20Diagram.jpg

...there should be a Battery Powered wire (Black) at Switch (see below) but no wire with constant power at Headlights...this is a result of someone's creative wiring (or an attempt to incorporate those ridiculous Daytime Running Lights)...I suggest you inspect wiring at Switch and return connections to the way they came from the factory (remember, color code on Wiring Diagram is your friend!).

Headlights are not fused originally, but adding one with adequate wiring and of correct rating is not necessarily a bad thing.

From Wiring Diagram for 12V 544/210:

White wire at term 58 is Running Lights power
Yellow wire at term 56 is Headlights power to Hi/Lo Beam Switch
Black wire at term 30 is Battery power

Good Hunting
