if you want a show car have a look at the original wiring diagram, if you want bright headlights and a switch that lasts forever, uses the headlight switch to control a relay in the engine bay that supllies power to HL. Having all the current running through a dash switch while common practice is hard on the contact points in the switch. A common upgrade on many vehicles is using the switch to control a relay/twin relay, while slightly more complicated, this should be more reliable long term and also has the advantage of less voltage drop at the HL.

p.s. if you wantr to get really fancy the relay setup can be used to give you daytime running lights while ign on, twin relay for high/lo setting
