Turn signal 200

Normally when a turn signal begins to flash at a faster interval than normal I expect to find one or the other not displaying.

So when my righthand turn signal started exhibiting this behavior on the way home from work I made a mental note to look into the situation.

When I checked to see if it was front or rear I found them both flashing rapidly.

What is causing this?
