Heater box rebuild - Foam replacement material suggestions/recommendations?

Hi Peeps,
I'm elbows deep into my first (ever) heater removal/replacement on my '72 145.
The heater control valve will be sent out for repair, the heater core off to the radiator shop for testing, all new hoses ordered...
I thought it would be nice to replace the crumbling foam flap seals while I have the opportunity. I'm looking for suggestions for what material to use and where to find it. I'd guess that maybe there's a better material available now than what was used back in '72. Open cell foam, closed cell foam, neoprene, pickup canopy mounting tape, weather stripping? Thanks!
