89 245 broken odometer adventure. 200

I bought a speedometer cluster I took out of a 92 240 at the Pick n Pull. I was hoping to use it until I order the gear for my 89. The speedometer would not work in my 89. In all my 240's I have never known a speedometer to be broken at least from 86 up. Did Volvo do some wiring changes in the 90's?
Where is the best place to order that little gear.
I see IPD carries one.
