240 Wagon - '87 or '90 200

Hi there.
Looking to buy a 240 wagon on the west coast of Canada.
I have a few options to choose from, and would love some feedback.

The first:
http://www.usedvictoria.com/classified-ad/1990-Volvo-240-Wagon_27193414
218,000 miles on a rebuilt engine for $2000 Well maintained (apparently)

The Second:
http://www.usedvictoria.com/classified-ad/87-Volvo-Wagon_27001607
218,000 miles on the original motor. Nice interior. Rusted tailgate hatch. $1300.00

I dont know much about these cars other than reading and researching online. I plan to put 7000 miles or so on it this summer. Live on the west coast, so rust isnt a huge issue. NOt mechanically inclined, but ready to learn. Dont want to spend much over $2000 if possible. I know the wiring is an issue in anything pre 1988. The 87 is in great shape, and the wiring seems fine from what I've looked at.
