Symptom of a Bad Clutch? 200

My 1983 manual trans 242 is getting more difficult to get into both 1st and reverse gears. I have replaced the clutch cable thinking it may have stretched so far that I was not getting complete clutch action. But that has not had any impact.

I was thinking this really may be an issue with syncros in the transmission. I am not sure. But a knowledgeable friend has suggested this may be an issue with the clutch itself.

Can anyone weigh in on this opinion?

Thanks
