How bad is the AW70 behind a B23/B230F? 200

Hello,

I am finding that most of the used 240s on the market are automatics. This probably reflects the fact that most of them were slushboxes when new.

To me, the B23/B230 with an M46 or M47 behind it is no slouch and gives decent performance once you get used to the long gearing and shift accordingly. However, I have heard that the automatics are dogs. How bad is the acceleration? One car I looked at was an '83 242 with a b23 and AW70. A very nice, low mileage (130k) car that has been repainted and has an updated wiring harness, new suspension bushings, a new blower motor and a few other things that tend to be expensive to fix on these cars. Price was reasonable, too, but if dump trucks are passing me off the line I am probably going to resent buying the thing.

Would like to hear your experiences.
