Sad to say, one of my all time sweetest running 240's has developed a head oil leak, of all things. In my experience, a 240 head leaking oil was such a remote possibility that I relegated it to only happening in Bizarro World.
But, I happened to notice an additional oil galley passage Volvo started cutting in the heads at some point. It is below the #2 exhaust port and runs to within 1/8" of the edge of the head - right where my '90 240 is leaking. of course. I'd sure like to know why Volvo took that oilway so close to the outside world.
Because it's about time for the leaking '90 to be treated to a new clutch and my parts car is holding a nearly new clutch, I've decided to swap engines instead of doing just a head gasket job.
Now for my question:
Does anyone have an opinion as to whether it will be easier to pull and replace the engine with the transmission attached or not attached?
It's been many years, but the last time I yanked a Volvo engine was from a dreadful 260 with the auto trannie attached. Talk about a lump! That was done in a well equipped garage with an overhead chain hoist; this time will be in my driveway using a Horrid Freight engine crane.
