Placing a 1992 engine into a 1989 240. No start. 200 1989

Good to know the index is correct, because getting a bit of life with starting fluid does not confirm the spark is occurring reliably and on time with EZK ignition.

I think you made the correct choice to use the 89's harness. The differences between 89 and 92 are functional only where the cold start valve is concerned, and not impacting. But the physical differences would have made your swap wiring hell once you came across the engine/cabin harness interface -- that plug above the passenger's left knee.

The 92 has no fuse under the hood. The main power to relay 30 arrives through that plug from the interior fuse panel fuse 6 with its current split between two conductors.

The relay tests you made in the Bentley would seem to describe the troublesome pink label syndrome -- at least where the missing ground at 86/2 is concerned. Although the weak spot in the pink label version was fixed with the white label -561, the prevailing intelligent guess about the root cause for the pink label syndrome is the raised system ground level caused by a poor connection at the fuel rail -- creating a significant potential between signal and power grounds -- the wires at the front bolt and the rear bolt. The splice just into the vinyl sheathing above the engine is as suspect as corroded crimps on the eye terminals.

You threw me off with the -560 ecu, but I figure just a typo. The =951 was the ecu the '92 would have come with, as it does not have the cold start circuitry, but that's not the compatibility issue. Either will work; your car will just be balkier starting cold with the -561. Could be that poor ground in the sheathing of your old harness cost you the previously working pink label -561.

Do this simple test. It is designed to verify the power is current-capable. Check for battery voltage at the AMM's orange wire with key on. I know you said the continuity test failed (Bentley step 3 with its mistake noted) but it sounds like you simply don't have power under load.

Edit: I just read Phil's response. I see he already suggested this. Also, I'm assuming you did not have a -556 ecu in the '89 or the -933 in the '92 or you would have mentioned the EGR in the swap story.
