No power, sweet exhaust smell 700

Having a problem with my 1987 760 Turbo wagon. I had the same problem several months ago, but it mysteriously vanished as quick as it came on, now it's back. The car was running perfectly and the next morning this appeared. Car starts and runs fine, when I start driving it I can sense something isn't right. The engine seems to hesitate and lacks power, especially in second gear. I have noticed that the exhaust smells different when this happens ? It almost smells sweet ? I am not loosing antifreeze or anything like that. Car is well maintained and tuned up. Any help would be appreciated.
