Surging on Deceleration 700 1989

dealing with this exact problem on my 89 760t.
i let my foot off the gas around 35-40 mph, and the tach drops, but then surges briefly almost as if i've downshifted. it's very subtle.
throttle body was just cleaned and a whole bunch of stuff done to it -- BUT, the mechanic STEAM CLEANED my entire engine, so i'm guessing that the same thing happened -- connectors got shorted or something. pretty crazy to think that it could seep in there, given how tight the damn thing feels like it's connected there.

i'm having trouble detaching the knock sensor to clean it. did you experience the same?
