Steering box worm shaft seal replacement 140-160

The steering box on my 142 developed a sudden leak from the worm shaft seal. I have a replacement seal on the way. I haven't examined it in detail yet; but, can anybody advise whether it is possible to replace the seal without disassembling the box and better yet without having to remove the box from the car? I was thinking that once the collapsible section of the steering column is removed and the matching coupler on the box shaft is off, all I would need to do is find something long enough to press the new seal on over the worm shaft.
