Had the same thing happen to my '87 240 last month. Unplug the connector at the motor/gearbox, spray contacts with WD-40 or something better (not a contact cleaner), re-install plug and try that for proper function. Always eliminate the simple things first even though they might not be the most intuitive. It fixed my problem so I got off lucky. PH- Charlotte NC, '90 240SW & '87 240.
