89' 240 Idling and Racing problems 200 1989

Hello All,

I just want to say, I apologize for asking for advice often and not giving it back. Its not that easy to go super indepth and get to the root of a car problem when you don't have a garage or driveway for unlimited free time access. I live in a big city and can really only work on my 240 in the lots of friends' businesses or on side roads. Which, invariably, limits how much time one has and ability to access vehicle freely.

But, I digress. I still donate to the brickboard and am grateful for all the ehelp from experts and novices alike. THank You Alot!

NOW! On to the real meat of the situation.

I posted awhile ago with a question about which throttle control sensor is the best for the money. Upon reading the responses and doing more research on the issue, I have come to the conclusion that the throttle sensor is not the issue. I will outline the issues:

-Runs alright upon initial starting
-at least 10-30 minutes later, the idle will be abnormally high, almost racing when car not being given gas or driving
-other times, the idle will be too low causing car to shake and almost die, sometimes dying.
-tried shutting car off and restarting to see if idle would reset itself. THis trick used to work a few months ago, now the car will not start again for at least 5-10 min (flooding)

POSSIBLE CULPRITS? This is where I've only done the research and don't have actual mechanic or expert brickboarder knowledge
-ECT sensor: the tempurature sensor in the engine is not hooked up right or the wire to it is loose, etc. THis I have to check as I replaced this sensor back in the fall, so the sensor cannot be faulty.
-Timing belt: don't know much about this, but saw posts where if this is starting to go, it can cause similar problems
-Idle air control valve; replaced this a year or so ago.
-cleaned out throttle body and AMM recently, so don't think it could be this. Perhaps faulty AMM but I would think this would cause car to run badly all the time which it doesn't

Thanks for any advice and help. Happy Brickin!!
