High gear verification. 200 1993

Is there a way to determine (like say with a multimeter with temporary yet extraordinary wiring) if I am in high gear as I am tooling up the freeway? Am having a tough time telling by the feel. The OD solenoid has had the bypass fix. When I step on the accelerator it does downshift, but it seems to be downshifting into second.
It's a '93 automatic and seems to shift well. I'm just not sure what the cruising gear is.
