Yep, I apologize. Those were Vince's words about the FIC AMM, not yours.
First, take a look at the voltages, "problem solver" aside, and we'll see if the AMM looks like a suspect. Even then, the only way to convict one is replacement with a known good spare, which you know is not so easy these days.
The move to LH2.2 is a really easy one for the folks on Turbobricks who seem to be able to come up with West-coast pick'n'pulls chock full of cheap parts. It stands to reason the LH2.2 cars are more plentiful, built over 4 years instead of 2, and later. Those who have done this mostly just swap the pins over to the 007 meter's pinout and plug in an LH2.2 ECU. Search on TB and you'll find details if someone chose to explain further than comparing the wiring diagrams. I'm out of lunch hour :)
I have some reservations about the way they are doing it, having to do with the ignition signal on pin 1 of the ECU, but no one seems to think it causes concern in practice. Now we are really getting ahead of ourselves...
