Cruise control trouble shoot. 200 1993

I have never “serviced” a cruise control system so I'm accepting all advice and pointers.
The cruise control on my '93 245 automatic will work, but only for between 5 and, say, 50 seconds. This tells me that the electrical side of things is good and the vacuum side of things is somehow defective. I checked all the vacuum hose connections I had easy access to and lubed up the vacuum/electric switch which is under the brake pedal. Still I only get the 5-50 seconds.
My guess is a new or rebuilt switch is in order due to it not holding the vacuum, or maybe there's a vacuum leak somewhere else. I'm not sure.
As always thanks for your input.
