One of the world's most talented designers is no longer with us. Jan Wilsgaard, the iconic designer of, Inter Alia, the Volvo Amazon, 240 and 700-Series, is on 6 August 2016 in kungsbacka died.

Wilsgaard was born in 1930 in Brooklyn, New York. He was, from 1950 to 1990, Chief designer at Volvo cars. Wilsgaard was made responsible for the new models of Volvo and got the almost unworkable task the successor of the popular pv444 to put on paper. He did wonderfully with the Amazon what the international breakthrough for Volvo would mean.



After the successful AMAZON he created more Volvo automobile icons including the 140 series, 240 series, the 700-series in which he attached photo's at work. The project of the 850 he started on within Volvo, but was not completed by him anymore. With the passing of Volvo's us a big designer slip. We hope that he's in the Volvo museum gets an honorable place, because he certainly earned it!
