Read the owner manual for lube type .... 200

.... says 'Type F' for the power steering fluid.

Dexron 3 (and newer, Dexron is apparently backward compatible) for the AW-7x.

Or we can say compatible synthetic for either.

Put Dexron in that power steering pump, and you'll ruin it as I did mine. 'Cause the damn Haynes 240 manual (I lost the Bentley, and did not read the owner manual) says Dexron in the power steering pump, stupid me.

As for the M-series manual gear boxes on a rear wheel drive Volvo, if you mean that by transmission ... Well, that's an entirely different matter. Neither of these would would desirable. Though, in a pinch, you can get away with genuine 'Type F, F/G, or G' for the later M46 and M47.

Yet yet Redline MTL, or the Volvo spec gear lube is the choice. Though I'd seen some mechanics put synthetic 30W into high mileage M47s.

I have the Ansoil synthetic Super Shift Racing Transmission Fluid ARTQT-EA SAE 10W in two M47 IIs. As it is synthetic, it is 'Type F' and Allison C-4 compatible, so says the copy. Allison C-4 uses a friction modifier, so it is slippery. Though synthetic lubricants can possess many properties and still comply to the lube spec of a device faultlessly. Or we hope.

I also use it as power steering fluid in the one 240 with power steering.

Yeah, I don't do too much racing with gearbox racing fluid in the St Loogey, Misery flea-riddled suburban slums in the owld, rotting 240. Rots as no garage.
