Question about parts for 240 200 1989

Maybe this has been asked. But do you guys go for Aftermarket parts or Genuine Volvo. Having work done on my wagon and my mechanic only wants to use Genuine Volvo so it really was much much more than a OEM or aftermarket brands. We are doing the Fuel pump and tank funk along with the PCV system. I ordered all hoses, filters, pumps you name it it was Genuine Volvo even gaskets. Have you had any quality issues with other aftermarket nightmares. I hope that using the Genuine parts will make the issues go away that are causing issues. I'm not a mechanic ...I can do easy stuff but this was over my head.
