Homegrown OD gaskets: bad idea? 200 1984

Any sage advice out there with regard to making your own gaskets for OD to main gearbox and OD pan?
IPD's got their mini rebuild kit with o-rings etc., but I don't want to get into a full disassembly and I hate to drop 70 bucks for a couple gaskets. This is for an '84 245 w/M46.
