I did something dumb and managed to lose my key. Actually, I think I just misplaced it but it's been gone for 10 days so it isn't looking good.
My local dealership, with whom I have a great relationship, ordered a pass key based upon my VIN. It doesn't work. So, they ordered it again just to make sure en error wasn't made in the packaging. That one also doesn't work. The question of whether or not there's ever been a replacement in years prior came up. I advised I am technically the third owner. The second owner bought this car from the dealership who is helping me and that owner had it for well over a decade. The original owner had it for less than a year. So, if it was changed out it would have been in the first few months of its life which seems unlikely. The dealership agrees with me that the key was never changed.
They are engaging a local auto locksmith to see if that company can help. Coincidentally, BEFORE I went to the dealership I contacted the very same auto locksmith via e-mail. They told me they were unable to help.
Does anyone have any questions I should be asking or can anyone think of what might be the reason the pass key isn't working?
Also, if a solution can't be found and they need to reprogram the vehicle or reconfigure the locks what's a typical reasonable price range for this type work?
