Steel vs. Alloy ?? 200 1992

We've had leaking alloys on ~1/2-dozen 2000-up (GM, Ford, Chrysler, some imported) vehicles. Dealers will usually reseal the inside once under warranty. After that, you have to read a service bulletin about how this is "normal".

Usually the leak is a few lbs/month; on a 2014 truck it reached ~5 lbs/week. A friend with a tire store sells a sealing with new tires/reseals but it's not 100%.

When I get upgraded/alloy rims on a 240 I sell them.

Friends in Europe who drive often in the Alps prefer alloys. The original steel rims on my 1956 Willys pickup might lose 1-5 lbs/year; ditto my 1963 IH pickup; 0 loss in the homemade trailer on 1970s truck rims ....

For me, steel. "Look, he bested you with strength, your greatness. He bested me with steel. He must have out-thought Vizzini." - Inigo Montoya
