Pintle washers on injectors - - are they critical?

While replacing the injector seals on our 1997 960, on of the pintle washers (these are flat nylon washers at the nozzle end of the injector, not caps) disintegrated. I was able to manufacture a new one by slicing the end off a pintle cap that I had I stock, but the thickness is slightly reduced. Is this a big deal? Are the pintle washers needed?

Thanks
