Sudden Rear End Noise / Vibration 200

Hello,

My '84 245 has developed a nasty rumbling noise accompanied by a vibration. The noise and vibration seem to be coming from the area just under the utility compartment (or whatever you may call it) behind the back seat.

In the lower gears, the noise/vibration seems related more to engine speed than to road speed, and it is particularly bad above 2500 rpm. However, above 50 mph it is constant, even with the clutch engaged (i.e., coasting).

I know that the passenger side motor mount needs replacing. I do not think that is the cause, though

Possibly a bad ujoint or something in the differential?
