Primary pump failure 200

I just went through the same thing tonight.

The tank pump in my daughter's "new" 93 wasn't working. The rust at the top of the sender was terrible, where the undercoating failed to reach.

Sure enough, the pump operates, and the black wire of the feedthrough is open circuit. No mention of gauge trouble, and I did ask her about the tank level, but the potted top portion of the feedthrough was loose from the plate. Under it were layers of rust which had expanded and broken the plastic. I took these photos, but all I can see left of the wire is verdegris. As usual, the underside and rest of the sender, protected inside the tank, looked brand new.

I'm going to be liberal with the undercoating after replacing the sender.
