Maybe Art Benstein will have some thoughts on this one. I thought I had fixed this problem a couple of times but it keeps coming back or maybe it never really went away. The charge indicator bulb will glow very dimly. The O/D lock out indicator will also glow very dimly. I now believe it to only be be bright enough to be visible when the car is very cold(-5 to -15C). When the car is stationary revving the motor makes no difference. When I put it in gear and start to drive the bulb will begin to flash brighter and dimmer. The faster I drive the faster it flashes. I replaced the alternator a couple of weeks ago as I was also having a problem with dash and headlights pulsating(probably a bad diode?) and when I checked the brushes they had cut quite a groove so replaced it. The glowing charge indicator seemed to go away when I did that but it was also warmer. The battery is charging, I get 14+ volts at the battery when idling. I've checked the voltages at the D+ alternator terminal and at fuse 5 which is IGN voltage as supplied to the instrument cluster. They're within .3V of each other. I haven't checked the voltage where the D+ alternator lead goes into a connector to enter the body. Is it the connector on the firewall behind the intake manifold? I can't see that being the problem though as it shouldn't matter to it whether the car is moving. I can't monitor what is actually at the connectors to the instrument cluster while driving unless I splice in some wiring. Is there anything in the instrument cluster that could cause this? The speedometer and odometers are working fine but I don't know much about the circuitry for the motor that's driving them. Failing capacitors? I'm at a loss here.
