Good for you, changing the thermostat along with the radiator. This is one bit of PM that makes sense. I'll bet you maintain the coolant replacement schedule better than the average owner, as well.
I'm not offering expertise here, just opinion: I think the hotter tstat is the better choice. I wonder that it seems to be less popular, though, as for instance, last order I placed for 92 degree tstats was filled incorrectly at first, requiring a second shipment, leaving me with an abundance of 87's I'll probably never use.
If I were to speculate why owners seem to want the cooler stats, it would be that their most recent contact with the cooling system was a situation described as over-heating. Lets cool it down!
I know, 5 degrees sounds like nothing much. Well, I'm in process of targeting our new domestic water heater on 120, and though the F's are smaller degrees, 5 of them below that temp is like the first bed Goldilocks tried, and 5 above is like the second bed. One more tweak and I'll have it right, and Goldilocks will sleep soundly.
Get both, put the 92 in and keep an eye on it. Swapping tstats is easy once you've done all the cleanup and prep for the first one.
