hi sages- read with interest this thread and i commend the erudite instruction. still seems though that this speedometer conundrum caused by the unnecessary replacing of the tried and true cable speedometer with this electronic rube goldberg device(old fuds here would know the meaning of that). have repaired many cable speedometers easily in my garage w/o taking out a mortgage to get soaked by a dealer or indie. with a cable speedo you either unbolted the cable sheath and replaced the internal cable and/or replaced the speedo in the cluster. both were available at auto stores or the dealer and eureka it was good for another 100k. lubing the new cable with light grease was a good idea too. took about an hour . parts cost was low and certainly not the$6-800 shysters want to fix the electronic gizmos on the later 240s. mystery remains to wit- how is the electronic an improvement over the cable speedo. forget the sales hype. it belongs in the junkyard of bad ideas with the hydraulic clutch, 240 blower motor location , and interference engines to name a few. occassionally i see an article or a thread dealing with reverse engineering in automobiles which are very interesting. do i need an attitude adjustment? i invite your analysis and critiques. thanks tons oldduke
