Exhaust assembly advice needed 200 1993

Just purchased a new Volvo downpipe and plan to install next weekend. I will be mating to a catalytic converter I installed about 10k miles ago.

The connection between the two will have the donut in between them:

In order to prevent leaks, should I use a paste or a silicone-based RTV such as:

https://www.permatex.com/products/gasketing/ultra-series-gasket-makers/permatex-ultra-copper-maximum-temperature-rtv-silicone-gasket-maker/

I also have some small leaks in the joints behind the cat. I'm tempted to pull the joints apart, clean them and apply paste or silicone to prevent further leaks. Is this recommended?

Comments/thoughts much appreciated.

Thanks.
