I live in SoCal, and while I have never had to deal with this situation (all my cars were purchased new in CA) it was my belief that it won't be a big deal for you.
The car only has to meet the smog specs that applied to it when it was manufactured. So it was certified to Federal (i.e. non-California) specs and you will be tested to those same specs now.
So as long as everything is working, you should be OK.
If you passed in CT then you will probably pass in CA.
It may be worth having your car checked out by a reputable shop before going in for the smog check, but I don't think you have too much to worry about.
Here at my work we have hired many out-of-state folks over the years, many of which were college grads driving not-so-new cars. Very few had problems with smog checks on their cars, and most that did were able to resolve them without too much trouble.
We are in Los Angeles County so if there are stricter rules for LA, we are subject to them.
So I am certainly not an expert, but if the smog widgets are working I think you'll be OK. OTOH if the smog stuff has been deactivated or are inoperative, you are toast.
