starting problem with 89 240

Thanks for the reply. I have since solved the problem with the info I received in the past. This problem was different in that the car was kicking over occasionally. I did test for the main pump running and as it turns out, it was running occasionally. When I returned to my relatives (about 160 miles away) the car started on the first try. I replaced the pink label ecu with a white one, replaced the fuel pump relay and the cps, just in case. I drove the car to get a gas fill up and returned to my relatives. I went out later and the car would not start. I tested the fuel pumps by jumping the fuses and the main pump would only briefly if I would thump it. I did have a spare to install and was able to return home. The last time I had a problem with intermittent no start I replaced the pink label with a white one, but later found out that the culprit was the cps, so I put the pink label back in. I'll leave the white one in this time. Thanks again for the reply and the info. It's good to know that I could have driven it home with the jumper in place if it was not the fuel pump.
