Whirring or howling - wheel bearing? 200 1991

hi arty b- wow youre right repacking wheel bearings has fallen by the wayside. older tanks used to mandate repacking front wheel bearings every 10k miles using fibrous grease which later was replaced by that grease that looked like peanut butter(lithium?). did it many times on fords and dodges. used to help uncle moe do it on his 48 packard. those parts you pictured look real bad : scored race, busted cage and looks like the cup is gone with the wind. imagine if your left front was smoking and locked up on that dark desert highway. happened to me. regards oldduke
