Speedometer Failure - Tach Wire Mix-up 200 1993

So, I'm the guy who found the tach. wire and thought is should connect to a speedometer with no tach. After flogging myself I'm dealing with the aftermath.

Do a typical set of components fail when this happens? I'm okay with some circuit board repair if that's what it takes to save the cost of a new speedometer.
