A/C Universal Compressor Oil and Leak Detection 900 1995

Thanks Amarin and Spook. Great ideas!

Unfortunately, I gave the inside of the filthy engine compartment a good washing last Fall when I bought the car so have most likely removed any traces of dye, which a sticker says is in the system. The long time owner I bought the car from said the A/C hadn't worked for years.

I am thinking of evacuating the system, turning off the pump, and listening around the places you mentioned with a stethoscope. I have a few seconds before the system vacuum disappears. I may have to do this a few times.

Also, I am thinking I should give it just enough R134a, without a vacuum, to get the compressor to kick-in for a few seconds so I can see where the leak is. I do have the UV light and glasses. I have a 30 lb tank of R134a.

Please let me know if you have more ideas. It isn't real hot yet so I have time to get this fixed.
