1993 940 T horn intermittent, a tap on the top of column brings it back

I have a 1993 940T and among other electrical gremlins, the horn is very intermittent but, when I beat on the top of the plastic piece between the steering wheel and the dash, and it will start working again. It is obviously a bad connection in the steering column but, I'm not sure what to do about it. So, if I remove the - battery connector, then I can't accidentally dump the airbag?

I checked the FAQ and didn't see anything about the column horn connection. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
