1983 240 Temperature Gauge 1/4 way up max. 200

Hi Volvo 240 People,
I hope all your cars are running great.

On my 1983 240 b23 the temperature gauge only goes up
about 1/4 of the way and stays there. I have seen the
postings and help pages for the repair for the 1986 and
newer models. Mine does not have the compensation board?
What can I do to fix this?
