Strut recommendations 700 1989

Hi Mark,

The procedure is about the same if actually slightly easier. Same steps and precautions.

Though may I suggest you review the procedure if you can find the green factory manuals or as Haynes or You Tube put up. There may be stuff I'm forgettin'.

Use good spring compressors. Some are better than others.

I'm unsure how much play you have in the brake flex line between the inner fender mount and the caliper. Don't distress (pull or stretch) if you don not want to open the brake lines. Though old and cracking brake lines are sort of unsafe. Well, unsafe. ATE makes the best replacements.

A spare trolley jack with large bowl like saddle may make a good mount to support the strut assembly weight as you have the strut assembly free from the inner fender. Use strong nylon or something to hook to the spring seat, if no support or trolley (floor) jack.

And read up in the FAQ. Also, search here and in the FAQ for more info.

Good luck. Just be safe. If using rental tools, like spring compressors, check that they are safe and clean. The spring compressor thread can be filled with grime and other stuff. A little grease on the thread after cleaning away the grime helps. Don't use an impact wrench on spring compressors!

Hope that helps.
