I put Bosch on mine.
1. On my 142 B20B M41 car I used a 35amp from a GM-Holden HR, it is actually 3 years older than the car! I drilled out the bottom mount bolt to 1/2" ID, and hacksawed and filed off the excess length and bolted it on, same wiring and regulator. Later upgraded the regulator to the the then new solid state Bosch unit. I was told the Motorala unit was weak in the diode section, so a change of brand seemed essential and the 35amp Bosch are pracically free. The car was fitted with 90/100watt headlight bulbs, 100watt driving lights and a deafening stereo. No problems keeping the battery charged.
2. On my 164 B30E I used a 55amp version of the same alternator, only, I made a braket to fit the power steering pump and the alternator on the LHS of the motor and without mods, the alternator came from a mid '70's Cleveland and features a built in regulator. Lasted about 2 years before the brushes wore out and I replaced the regulator/brush assembly with a new genuine part for not much more than $20 Australian. I did not even take the alternator off, just disconnected the battery negative and took the two screws out in situ.
3. On my 144 B20P 2130cc Twin 48 DHLA boy racer car I used a 55amp Clevo unit again, it has a larger pulley combined with a smaller pulley on my Romac harmonic balancer for serious underdrive. It was mounted in the same way as the 1st one.
Bosch stretched this design too far and the 85watt version is a POS.
